In this review, we’ll take you step by step through the journey from Bangkok’s Ekkamai Bus Terminal to Ban Phe, and then by boat to Koh Samet—covering travel time, costs, and highlights along the way.

Koh Samet is well known for its pristine beaches, calm atmosphere, and activities ranging from snorkeling and kayaking to lively beach parties. The Journey
Starting at Ekkamai — Easy Ticket Booking
Begin your trip at Ekkamai Bus Terminal. It’s best to leave in the morning. Minivan tickets to Ban Phe cost 200 THB per person, and the ride takes about 3 hours. Along the way, you’ll watch the scenery shift—from Bangkok’s skyscrapers to roads lined with palm trees and the scent of the sea in the air.

Arriving at Ban Phe — Chill Seaside Atmosphere
The minivan drops passengers off at Ban Phe Municipal Pier, the main hub for travelers heading to the island. From here, you can choose from several piers, but the two most popular are Ban Phe Municipal Pier and Nuanthip Pier. For this trip, I chose Nuanthip Pier because of its frequent departures and variety of boats (both ferries and speedboats).

Choosing Your Boat — Relaxing or Fast, Up to You
- Ferry (Large Boat): 70 THB one-way or 120 THB round-trip. Takes around 45 minutes. Perfect for those who enjoy a slow ride, soaking in the sea breeze.
- Speedboat: 200 THB one-way or 300 THB round-trip. Takes only about 10 minutes. Best for travelers in a hurry or with limited time.
For this trip, I chose the ferry, as I wanted to take in the scenery and enjoy the atmosphere at a slower pace.

Arriving at Koh Samet — National Park Fee
Upon arrival at Koh Samet, all visitors must pay a national park entrance fee:
- Foreigners: 200 THB per person
After that, you’ll find songthaews (shared pickup taxis) waiting to take visitors to various beaches. You can either share with other passengers for a lower fare or hire one privately to tour the island at your own pace.
By now, you can see that Koh Samet offers much more than just a beautiful beach. With its charm, cultural touches, and wide range of experiences, one visit is never enough—you’ll want to come back again! 🌊🏝
